I think once you start to question the society's interpretation of scripture. I remember the last time I was visited by elders, I brought up how their understanding of certain scriptures was based on years of WT indoctrination, not an objective study of the scriptures. It was at this point that they asked me if I had read any apostate literature.
on an earlier thread about ice cream i remembered a snack that was sold at assemblies and that started me thinking about some of my memories of childhood at conventions/assemblies.
i guess it was the taste/smell association because even today when i go to various convention halls for home improvement expos, car shows and the like it takes me right back to the past.
i have many memories wrapped around the conventions and experienced different things because i have lots of elders in the family that were used, literally, for food service, the accounting office, security and dramas.
Back in the late '70's/early 80's, we used to go up to Green Bay for our district convention. One year, during intermission, my dad, my two brothers, one of my brother's friends and me went to visit the Packer Hall of Fame, under the belief that we would make it back by the beginning of the afternoon session. We ended up missing half of the afternoon session. My brother's friend's parents were not pleased at all, nor was my mom. This definitely rates as my all-time favorite convention.

I understand this attitude regarding rape isn't unique to JWs. Tell us something we don't know. This particular thread happens to be dealing with JWs and their attitude regarding rape. I'm not the one who started the thread. If you have a problem with that, take it up with the one who did.

I wasn't associated with any of those other religions you speak of, only JWs. I therefore cannot feel ashamed to have been associated with that which I was never a part of.

It's sick, but not particularly surprising. What if someone holds a gun to your head and tells you they will shoot you if you scream? What if you're so traumatized by being raped that you can't react at all? Things like this make me ashamed that I was ever a part of this religion at all.
believe it or not this was the very very begining of my demise as a dub.. i picked the simplest thing that dubs disagree with christians on and i thought surely i could come to a conclusion as to wether dubs were right or christendom was right.i wanted to start building my foundation of faith in them.. i can't believe they are still using this stupid illustration of the loved one murdered by the weapon illustration!.

what i have noticed since pulling away from group thinking, mindsets, rules and superstitions, that i am open to a broader range of loving people.. i am not sure i can blame all this on the jw expericance.
as children we are taught from our tribe, (family and enviroment, church, school, extended family, neighborhood..........who to love and who not to love.
i used to believe as the witnesses taught, you have to "beat" the evil out of children.. have you ever watched a group of small children unattended?
I agree. Let me know if I am low on a quota of God's love in any area and I will ask him for some more.
Seeing how your definition of love is limited to the narrow confines of scripture and religious dogma, you have completely missed the point of this thread. True love is about how you treat others, whether they share your belief system or not. It is being accepting of all differen't types of people. It is not wishing destruction upon those who don't believe in the bible, or feel they need atonement for exercising the free will that your god gave them. It extends to everyone and is unconditional.
